Online Therapy for Therapists in Northern Virginia

Therapist life isn’t always what we imagine.

The work of therapy is hard and taxing. It impacts not just you but your relationships and the way you show up for clients. We all only have so much energy each day. When we give and give to our clients and keep pouring out of our cup, of course we’re going to feel exhausted and on empty!

Our career field is unique - we’re human just like everyone else and also expected to “have it all together” to be a “good therapist.” You have the training and are tempted to think that you should have it all figured out but you know you need support too.

Are you pre-licensed and figuring out your next steps?

You feel drawn to this career so you can help people but this is not how you envisioned it going. You’re running on empty - there’s so much to juggle. You’re easily stressed and feel like this process is taking forever. The future feels unknown. Meeting with clients is triggering - you’ve noticed some of your own stuff coming up.

Maybe you…

  • Notice you’re unhappy with how your life feels right now

  • Feel overwhelmed as you work towards licensure

  • Wonder if you’re exhausted from working harder than your clients

  • Are unsure how to best navigate life as a therapist

Or have you been licensed for years and are teetering on the edge of burnout?

Knowing you lack balance between your work and personal life doesn’t mean you know what to do to make the lasting changes that are needed. You know self-care is important and even talk to your clients about doing it. Your competing priorities and never ending to do list always gets in the way. Sessions with clients don’t feel the same - before you felt energized afterwards but now you just feel drained.

Maybe you…

  • Notice you’re feeling impatient, frustrated, and irritable

  • Are so focused on everyone else it’s hard to find time for yourself

  • Wonder when you lost control of your life

  • Feel pressure from society & yourself to have all the answers

Or have you been in the field for years and are struggling with running your own practice?

You thought having all of the control by being your own boss would help you feel better - instead it brings so many new and unique challenges. There’s so much involved with having a private practice. You feel overwhelmed everyday and may have started doing work tasks on weekends. Sessions with clients even feel different - you’re distracted by thinking about all the things you need to figure out and do.

Maybe you…

  • Notice you’re spending more and more time on work

  • Wonder how your practice took control of your life

  • Feel lost & know this is not sustainable for you

  • Know you’re missing out on parts of life that truly matter to you

Your work doesn’t feel good to you - instead it feels stressful and draining. It leaves you with little energy for self-care or other areas of your life. You’re not able to be fully present in your relationships. You’re losing sleep thinking about and feeling overwhelmed by everything. You wonder if things will ever change.

I get it. Life doesn’t have to be this way, I can help you create that change so you can have a life that is balanced, peaceful, and enjoyable.

Helping you find balance in your career and in life.

It’s time to take off your therapist hat and get support. Imagine being fully present to enjoy your life and time with your loved ones rather than feeling overwhelmed. Once you’re back in control - you can feel more confident and focus on what you want for your life. You can feel calm, balanced, and content.

You’re ready for help to look at what is getting in the way of having the life, career, and relationships you want & that feels good to you.

My Approach to Therapy with Therapists

My approach is based on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness. I have found that DBT has many helpful aspects when working with therapists - especially teaching us to balance acceptance & change and fostering self-compassion rather than being self-critical. Using DBT, I can help you gain clarity about your priorities, build confidence for better interactions, and create & maintain balance in your life and relationships.

The four modules of DBT skills help us therapists focus on reconnecting with our body to be mindfully present, navigating stressful experiences, managing our emotions, and improving our relationships. Integrating DBT will give us a roadmap tailored to your goals.

During our sessions, you’ll have my entire focus on you and your wellbeing. We’ll explore what isn’t working for you anymore and help you better understand what’s getting in the way of you having what you want in life.

Our sessions will look different every week - from processing events of the past week to diving more deeply into past experiences to learning practical skills you can use in your daily life. If you are a visual learner we will use electronic handouts for you to look at and reference in and out of session.

I’ll provide you guidance towards learning new ways of doing things and creating healthier patterns aimed at what you want for all areas of your life. We’ll conclude sessions by reviewing key takeaways and identifying actionable steps for where to focus your effort during the week.

Therapy with me means you’ll be spending your energy investing in yourself by learning tools to be purposeful with how you use your energy, discovering ways to refill your cup, & focusing on what you want for your career & life. I’ll give you steady support as you take control back, achieve lasting change, and learn to thrive.

I wholeheartedly believe…

  • You deserve to feel mentally & physically better

  • You deserve to have improved & more restful sleep

  • You deserve to enjoy your life rather than feeling drained all of the time

  • You deserve to have dedicated time each week to focus on your goals & mental health.

  • You deserve to have someone show up for you - just like you do for your clients.

In my work supporting therapists we focus mainly on:

Yourself & Your Identity: I enjoy doing deeper work - focusing on you as a whole person and not just your profession. We’ll look at what matters most to you, what’s causing you stress, and what from your past continues to impact you or may be unresolved. I’ll help you better understand the origin of the patterns you want to break & learn practical skills to use in your daily life. You’ll shift from feeling distracted by judgments to confident in yourself.

Your Work: I’ll provide you a judgment-free space to explore unhelpful patterns, learn new ways of doing things, and create healthier patterns to improve your work/life balance. I’ll teach you effective skills to use in your day to day life so you can regain control rather than being stressed by your professional struggles. You’ll learn to navigate difficult and challenging work issues in a calmer and clearer way. You’ll go from feeling drained to proud of yourself.

Your Relationships: I’ll help you look at what is and is not working in the relationships in your life, gain clarity about what is important to you in relationships, and no longer abandon your personal needs for the needs of others. I’ll provide you guidance towards learning new ways of doing things. This will help you be better able to communicate, say no when needed, and set boundaries in your relationships. You’ll feel more connected and engaged with those you love.

I understand the challenges of working in this field. I’ve overcome burnout and compassion fatigue so I know what’s possible on the other side. I’ll bring my experience & expertise, meet you where you are, and help you create the changes that you’re looking for in your well-being, life, relationships, and career.
